The image above is of Bevo XIV, former mascot of UT Austin. Longhorns are magnificent creatures. Their hides go for a lot, though I guess cow hides in general tend to go for quite a bit. Also, hook'em is a very catchy phrase.
The meat here is to DIE for. I'm talking brisket that just melts in your mouth. I've been to Salt Lick and Black's BBQ, and I will say I prefer the brisket at Salt Lick. The brisket at Black's is fine, but whatever they're putting in Salt Lick's has to be straight from a place of love. The sausages at Salt Lick are also amazing. Black's is more convenient though, as you don't have to drive far out from UT to get to it.
It's probably because I'm a Californian (ew), but the heat here is something to get used to. I'm from the bay area (ew), which means I experience basically static weather year round, and the humidity doesn't vary as much in the bay. But Texas goes from dry to humid, from hot to cold much more than what I'm used to. I don't yet know if I like that or not, but it's definitely more interesting than what I live with in the bay.
It's only the first day, I'll probably have a better sense of the school once I'm done with orientation and actually get through my first semester.
